You can recognize a skunk cuz it looks like one and it smells like one. D&D 4th edition looks like D&D but smells like WOW slurred with Magic.
So no, this guy won't be buying into wOtc counterfeit game.

While TSR managed to run things into the ground, I do not like the new direction. I really don't like back ground pictures with print over them. I can hardly read the print.

P.S. Gary Gygax is/was TSR. Or at least for the first 10 years. Then the TSR company that grew out of Gary's marketing ousted its own founder, Gary. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TSR,_Inc. P.S. I like WotC because I feel they have improved D&D not mangled it.

WoTC ruined another favorite game of mine... Magic the Gathering. Not saying that they didn't ruin it as I don't play MtG but WotC invented Magic the Gathering. It is what put them on the map. Just saying that if they did ruin it, it was theirs to ruin. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wizards_of_the_Coast

Well, ruin it they did. At least, they ruined my format, and they did it for money reasons. While I understand from a business point of view, as a player my hatred will smolder until my anger itself sunders the world in fire.
...okay, I don't hate them THAT much, but it sounded good at the time.

Now, when did they ruin it for you Merkader? For me it was just last year or maybe the year before, with a bunch of changes to the Vintage Banned/Restricted list and new sets adding things to the game that should never have been added (it all started with Time Spiral and that damned Suspend mechanic... from there it was just too horrifying to watch). Though arguments that Mirrodin ruined it are understandable, or even Masks way back when, though I think since then they managed to restore some glory before finally stabbing it through the heart with a rusty wooden spoon.

I believe it was just after Mirage when they Restricted Racks and Hymm to Tourak. Wizards has always listened way to much to whiners and not to their base who actually knows how to play. Everyone who plays magic sooner then later gets pissed when they ban or restrict all the cards they have so they are forced to buy an enormous amount of new cards to stay competitive.

Sounds about the same thing as me, just a previous generation of player =P
For me though, I didn't actually play the deck that got hosed. It was a case of Rock-Paper-Scissor... no wait. It was a case of Cockroach-Foot-Nuke. The central card in the Nuke deck, which actually took skill to use (I couldn't play it worth crap, and half the people that used it failed most of the time), got restricted because they wanted the whole format to be Foot, much like Standard is. Me, well I was the Cockroach... I could live through facing that Nuke with ease, but those few Foot players that were out there I had to dodge like hell or I got stepped on.
I think that analogy made sense... if not, um... I dunno, just ignore it.

I think it would be cool if they re-released 2nd Edition with new artwork. That would be sooooo cool. I love 2nd edition, but I would at least try 4th edition JUST for the illustrations. I really want a new 2nd edition Monstrous Manual.

Well, it IS WotC, these people have a ton of card games and other such creations that thrive on the visual. They better pump out some nice artwork. Honestly, it's one of the things I feel I can actually compliment them on with M:TG, overall the artwork has gotten much better and almost always manages to convey the nature of the card itself quite clearly.
Though there will always be cases where a classic design stays classic and cannot be surpassed, but that usually comes down to personal preference and as such I'd rather not start arguing on what falls under this and what doesn't =P

I agree that the artwork has improved ten-fold. I think they should do like Shadow said and re-release 2E with the newest artwork.

That... that's not what I said, that's what YOU said... I mean, that'd be cool, but they're never gonna do it unless they market it as... an entirely different game or system Good god, someone talk to Wizards, and see if they'll run with that idea: renaming 2E to something like Classic or just naming it something other than D&D. There's plenty of us who would buy their stuff again if they polished 2E up a bit with spiffy new manuals and a few additions, so long as they keep to the same as 2E was, even if the name has changed. Though, there's a good posibility of them tweaking it in an undesirable fashion and killing it for us as they did when they made 3E, so... hmm, that's a tough one. To hope, or not to hope...
