Well, I get a lot of idea's into my head, but this one stuck with me. All of my dreams, in order are to change the world, repopulate the plains with buffalo, have AD&D second edition popular, and get everyone to watch every Monty Python item ever made. (rather hopeful, aren't I now?)
This idea would require a good group of people, who have a love of AD&D, lots of time on their hands, and hopefully some experience with computer programming.
The basic idea behind it is a application that allows you to play D&D online with friends. Made of it's meat and bones.
It's meat is the game play, virtual table (not table-top) with you and your players at their chairs, with all of their D&D stuff on the table. At everyone's space, they have dice, books, and papers. If a person was reading out of the PH, for example, their avatar would show them doing so. The three basic parts are, as stated: your dice, which would be show in a pile, clicking one would roll it; your books, in a stack where clicking one would bring it up, obviously, players get the PH, and most likely, not the DMG or MM; and paper, shown in a stack, most likely with character sheets, and sheets containing random numbers or possibly maps.
It's bones are that it is soft-wired with the D&D books. They are their, as part of the game, as if they were a real book. Somehow, although it would require tweaking, the books would be able to be customized, and uploaded to the community to be voted on, displaying the most popular at the top. Upon your table-top, you'd most likely have a board with figurines, for help with combat display, but among the most handy to a DM would be the calculators. For example, an morale calculator; you click a miniature on your table, pop in it's morale, select it's modifiers, and press the calculate button. In an instant, you'd have the creatures morale check, something that a DM can't really do all by himself, and the beauti' part, you don't have to have the monster run, even if the morale check fails.
Now, I know I sound like a crazy dreamer-type guy, you might not even know what I said, but if you join, we might be able to work it out. I remember a video on the leadership of the shirtless dancing guy, another guy started dancing with him, and his friends joined in, and another group, and another group, and suddenly nearly everyone in the park was in a giant mosh-pit. So, join me on this and we'll catch that spark, and quite possible, start one hell of a fire.
[/rantend]
P.S. I hate to ruin, what is in my opinion, a powerful ending, but the parts of this co-operation would be the first people to rough in and idea, then the people to write the program, then the people to copy the books in, (as long as they aren't under copywrite law or anything, 'cause as far as I know, TSR doesn't exist and WotC doesn't seem to acknowledge that they own the early D&D games) so if you'd like to do something, which might not be programming/refining the game, stick around, tell your friends, and help copy down the books if the time comes.
P.S.S. You get a lot of characters for your messages.
