DDO is the best game around.
I've tried many others, and they aren't even close. You probably agree, or you wouldn't be reading this. We each have our own reasons. I just wanted to share mine.
I think DDO is the best because of the way races and classes can mix and match to create an amazing variety of characters. Yes, other games uses races and classes. What makes DDO special is that the races are really different from each other. In most other games the differences are slight. Also the classes are very different. In DDO the tanks are tougher, the squishies squishier. And of course, a lot of other games don't let you multiclass.
This helps DDO in two ways. First, you could run the same dungeon many many times, but so long as you are trying new character types, which play very differently from each other, the adventure will seem fresh. Running WW as a battle bard is totally different from a bard/rogue or a bard/sorc, or any other of the many possibilities.
Also, the different abilities characters have forces players to work together to complete quests. This introduces the DDO ur-game of playing well with others and finding those who play well with you. This seems much stronger to me in DDO than the other games I have tried. Again it keeps DDO fresh, because running TR with a nice newb you want to enjoy himself is totally different from running it with that guy in your guild you can't stand who buys all the plat and uber-loot from farmers.
So other games get stale while DDO stays fresh.
What does it mean for DDO development? Should Turbine work on expanding crafting or buiilding more quests? Neither is a priority IMHO. For my enjoyment, they should focus on introducing new races and classes. If they create 12 new dungeons, my guild will have run them all the first weekend with all their capped toons.
The race I would like to see is one with a bonus to WIS, penalty to DEX, blunt weapon bonuses, and racial enhancements that create auras, similar to a paladin's. The class I would like to see would be a summoner or Druid. That is one type that players really enjoy in other games, but is lacking in DDO. They would need to work out the AI though. Summoners should be able to give their pets basic commands (kill, come here, sit, roll over).
Druids on the other hand would be very awsome Shape changers.
I know not everybody sees it this way. Some people actually enjoy running the same quest over and over with the same toon until they find enough chipmunk funk to build their own doomsday device. But anyway that's my two cents.
