I know that I am getting in a little late for what are the best FR stories, but I really favored Azure Bonds with Alias, Dragonbait, & Old Nameless Bard. Dieties and evil forces all on the move to control here and all of her magically created killer clones. Great storyline and ideas about magic. ;D

Azure Bonds was a good book, and the reason two Saurial paladins were played in my realm.

The novel is simply called Azure Bonds, and is written by Jeff Grubb and Kate Novak. The story begins with an adventurer named Alias awakening in an inn; she has a set of blue, highly magical sigils on her arm, and cannot remember how she came to acquire them. She soon learns that the sigils represent various forces of evil, and that they can control her mind, forcing her to do their owners' will. With the aid of a mysterious lizard-creature named Dragonbait, a southern mage called Akabar Bel Akash, and a halfling "bard" by the name of Olive Ruskettle (the novel was written long before all races were allowed in the default rules to take any character class), she sets out to learn more about the sigils' creators, and become free of them.

Sounds interesting enough, I'll have to see if my library has it.

Could anyone tell me what the first series was in the those books and what the first couple titles were? I read them years and years ago (teens) and can't seem to remember. Now my son is at an age that he might enjoy them and I'd like a jump off point. What better place to begin than the beginning, huh?

My favorite character is named Gilbur Redbeard and was played in a re-vamp of the Pool of Radiance a friend re-did for the RPG. The inspiration was from the old computer game and module and he expanded the module. Gilbur was the only original character from the start of the game to we stopped. He stopped at 26th level, 13th level in fighter, and 13th level in cleric. The kit that he was is the Vindicator from the Dwarves Handbook and he was also a dwarf.
We rebuilt Phlan into a fortress so that Bane could not easily take it again. We adventured and my character and another character helped Phlan out of the rubble brought to it by the Evil Races. This campaign ran for over two yaers and was a great campaign. The other players characters would die and the players would make new characters .

With that said... Obviously, I think Drizzt and his companions are fantastic, but Jarlaxle is SO different from the introspective, morally guided Drizzt - he is a great breath of fresh air. RA writes him very well, and his wit and mannerisms are wonderful. I really enjoyed the Sellswords trilogy...

Nicely stated, Evergreen Aldaron, I think RA Salvadore is one of the best authors the Forgotten Realms have going for it.

Thanks Conner. Salvatore is a lightning rod. Either people love him or hate him for his Drizzt character. I think for the last twenty years he has injected interest in the Forgotten realms. Any press is good press. Keep my favorite setting alive !!!!!

I enjoyed his Cadderly stories almost as much as his Drizzt stories, but the other series he did about the priest who used gems to cast spells (can't think of the title right off, though one of the books was called Ascension, if that helps), I liked even better. But I haven't read any of his Star Wars stuff at all yet, I just can't bring myself to do it even as much as I enjoy his writing because I'm just not really that much of a fan of Star Wars, great movies, but really not what I want to read. Too much politics for my taste. Surprisingly, I was already a fan of the Forgotten Realms when I learned of Salvatore's writings, my first FR book that I read was Elminister: The Making of a Mage.

If you likes Elminster: Making of a Mage, then may I be so bold as to recomend the Novel Blackstaff? Absolutely fantastic.
