I have many adventures that have ended here and many that have made it a darker and scarier place. Love the Story line and there is a portal in my shadowmast realm to this realm

I once ran a campaign for about two years in Ravenloft, was one of my favorite settings ever... of course, it wasn't until he was granted his own domain that the party (except for one who figured it out early) learned that their benefactor and employer was actually a vampire himself.

I have Castles Forlorn, but the players were not too into it. It's is a tough campaign because PC's like Paladins have a better chance in the Aybss!

Wasn't there some really good reason not to be a paladin in ravenloft? It's been a long while now, but I thought it was something like you lost touch with your god so you were essentially just a fighter but also still reeked of good like a beacon to all the evilness around you.

Ravenloft is a great place, I'll give it that, but I've run sessions in the Realms that LITERALLY had my players jumping out of their seats. It's all in the presentation. My most memorable moment like that was one Halloween (here, not in the Realms... ) Everyone was trying to find what happened to the old farmer on the edge of town who was so well liked by everyone. Something had taken him, but not before slaughtering all of his livestock. They all decided to spend the night in his old farmhouse...the one that creaked and moaned with every gust of wind, and there was that unmistakable reek of death... About 3:00 in the morning, something made a noise at a side window, then out on the porch. (At this point, my players were all so quiet, you could hear a mouse fart.) "BANG!!" I shouted, (and every one of them, even the big guys, jumped up like a bunch of cats who'd just been dropped into a tub of icewater, it was awesome) and there stood hulking and slavering in the doorway a grotesque looking creature that was dripping with gore, and looked lupine but for the fact that it was wearing the farmer's ripped and tattered clothes... Well, you all can guess where it led to from there, but it was a fun night. Even though it wasn't a Ravenloft story, I just thought I'd share that one with you.

When I first got the original Ravenloft Box set I fell in love. I do not buy too many modules, but i bought anything and everything that had th Ravenloft logo on. Then they came out with Masque of the Red Death and blew everything out of the water. To me, Masque is the best part of the greatest AD&D realm every created. Of course if you ask my players, they hate Ravenloft.

Ravenloft From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search Ravenloft
The Ravenloft logo Designer(s) Tracy & Laura Hickman Publisher(s) TSR, White Wolf Publication date 1990 Genre(s) Gothic horror System AD&D 2nd Edition, d20 System
Ravenloft is a fictional campaign setting for the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game. It is an alternate time-space existence called a "pocket dimension" with the name "the Demiplane of Dread", which consists of a collection of land pieces called "domains" and the lands are brought together by a mysterious force known only as "The Dark Powers". Each domain is mystically ruled by a being called a "darklord", which is a person or monster who has committed an act or acts of evil so foul as to attract special attention from the Dark Powers. The darklords are imprisoned within the borders of their domains and cannot escape by any means, although most can seal their domain borders with a thought. Within their domains, the darklords are forever tormented by the objects of their desire (often the objects they committed their crimes to achieve), which the Dark Powers dangle before them like the fruits of Tantalus. Each darklord's desires and motivations differ; some desire love, others hunger for glorious victory, or one might envy the defeat and humiliation of their enemies like another rival darklord.

I love Ravenloft. Favorite adventures are Dark Rift and Bleak House. Have the Black Box set and Domains of Dread book. Always trying to get my hands on a legitimate copy of the Grim Harvest Boxed Set. AWESOME to read, but want my own copy.

Anybody ever play the old PC game Strahd's Possession? I got a kick out of it... still have it, but this computer's too advanced to run it (figure that one out).

Early '90s. Graphics and gameplay reminded me somewhat of Wolfenstein, with a little less FPS and a little more RPG. You create two PCs who start between 3rd and 6th level (depending on which/how many classes), and can pick up one or two more NPCs to join your party as you go (the stranded fighter who was waylaid by goblyns, the mad alchemist, the foppish half-elf... there were others, but it's been a long time). Dialogue was kinda shallow, but at least you get some choice of what to say.
