I am really liking Runescape. You don't need to pay unless you want to and you don't have to download anything. You can even play it from any computer. That being said, I still like MUDs better. Do you remember ZORK?

I LOVE ZORK!!! (and Zork II for that matter) I remember playing those on my friend's Commodore 64!

Honest to the gods, I remember doing that when I was like 8 or 9. It didn't say 'shit' was unrecognized or illegal entry or anything, just said you can't even do that. My friend and I were nearly falling off the chairs, we were laughing so hard.


I used to MUD a LOT in high school and college. The realm kinda folded though and I just never got much into some of the others I tried.

(MUD) I played "Nitemare" which later changed to "Arcante Nites" it was around for a long time.

Is that a typo for Arcane Nites? or was it actually called Arcante Nites? I ask because I played Arcane Nites for several months back in the late-90's or early-00's.

It was a typo. It was Arcane Nites. I was player and Immortal named Widowmaker. I was probably gone by then, I played from 94 through like 98. Ryu who was the MUD's creator was a friend of mine in college, we did a lot of drinking together. Noland who you see creeping around here sometimes, was Bane, Mul, Bandit, and many more names.

I have never played Arcane Nites but it sounds interesting.

Yeah, it was at least late '98 when i started playing there, though I think it was more likely early '99. I remember seeing Ryu on randomly and I think I remember Bane...but then you can find someone named Bane on just about any MUD.

Just like you can always find someone calling themselves "Demonslayer". The best name I ever heard was "Baltork Goblinspanker". What was your favorite?

I remember one player who named his mage Bates, he also demanded you use the proper term Master when addressing him.
