What is your favorite version of D&D, and why?

Is this a safe poll for a forum devoted to only 2nd Edition? *chuckle*

But at least 2nd edition is still ahead of 3rd edition by a three to one margin.

Need an Any choice. Each has something to offer, there are many rules from each I which were in the other.
So for me as long as it's enjoyable, it's a favorite.

I liked the fact it was easier to incorperate rules from Basic, AD&D, and 2nd Edition. My realm is a mix of those three editions, leaning more heavily on AD&D. Whereas 3rd Edition made it very difficult to use much from the previous editions.

At least without some hardcore converting that tends to kill the fun... Hmm, out of our first 5 voters, no one liked basic or 1st edition apparently, how sad, I thought those were both pretty good in their own rights, though 1st was definately head and shoulders above basic, but basic had some really fun magic items that kinda never resurfaced.

What are you looking for? I have the Red/Blue/Teal/Black/Bash books right beside me here. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard of me to type it up for you. Yeti

Oh I've got all of them too, even the Book of Marvelous Magic, but my players HATE when I break out that book and 'convert' a basic D&D magic item on the fly for them because there's no chance that they'll be able to research what it does OOC... *very evil grin*

I loved the chart for rolling randomly in them. Yeti

I have that one too But I'm usually surprised to find that at least one of the players in my group has a copy too, whereas none of them have usually ever heard of the Book of Marvelous Magic before. *eg*
