In 1975 I was playing historical minature war games, when a freind introduced me to a new game called Dungeons and Dragons. I helped run gaming conventions and RPGA events in my area, helped playtest 2nd edition, and had a lot of fun. Then 3rd came out, but I could not gather any personal interest in third, the RPGA people were only interested in who could build the most points, and I totally lost interest. No one in my area wanted to play 2nd. My freind went on to work at TSR, and I played the game hard. In 2000 a good freind that I played with died, I lost track of everyone else.

Hmm....
Well, it all started when I was about five or so. Which would have been... about thirteen years ago? Yeah. Anywho. My uncles were really into D&D, Magic: the Gathering, Final Fantasy, Breath of Fire, Warcraft and all that jazz. So, since I spent a lot of my time at my Grandmama's house during the summer, I would watch them play these games, and soon they taught me a few things, and even gave me permission to play the video games.
I became addicted.
I now love video games and the old Warcraft games and D&D. I haven't picked Magic back up, but I hope to some day, since my friend has been talking about wanting to learn how to play now.
About two years ago, I found out that a group of my older friends had a D&D group, and they invited me to play. I almost died. In a good way. Like, I was so excited that I was able to play D&D that I almost had a heart attack sort of thing.
Anywho, now I've been playing for about two years and I really love it.
The End. [/size]

I was 12 when we moved to Queens, New York (Dare I say, Greyhawk?). I went to seventh grade at IS-145 on the Northern Boulevard. There was a separated corrugated metal temporary building, where the sixth graders were going. The long wall of that building was facing the playground and there was a mural painted on it. There were pine trees and rock outcroppings... there was a lake in the middle... there were silhouettes of the mountains and a castle on the opposite bank of the lake, fading to bluish haze in the distance, but ther center piece were the dragons - they were in flight and had outstertched wings, and long necks craning forward... each dragon was different - had a different body! Was a different species! There was a red dragon, a green dragon, and I think a blue dragon, but I don't remember, three or four in all...I walked along the mural looking at every detail, and the end of it, on the side, "Dungeons and Dragons" was written in the plain letters, square block printing...
There was a hobby shop on the corner of 83rd street and 37th avenue. It sold model cars and tanks in boxes... it sold Dungeon Dwellers brand D&D Miniatures, not that I paid any attention to it, barely could afford one of those boxes, not to mention paints, brushes, and other hobby accutrements.
So, one day I saw one of those red D&D boxes with the dude about to launch a spear into the heart of one of thsoe green dragons coming out of th lake, come to think of it... it looks like a GIRL-dragon on that red box basic set... Hmmm... girls' hearts... spears... I'll leave any other connotations to cigar smoking Dr. Freud...
Anyway, it took a while for me to put together $13.00 or so bucks for the boxed set... didn't do paper routes, didn't start moving vans for a couple of years... and I am terrible at saving... but eventually I came into 20 bucks... and I went to that store and purchased that D&D Basic Set! Brought it home... took out the red rulebook, B2 module that came with it... It took me just over an hour to roll my first character, it was a Magic User, 13 INT everything else around 9... and I was hooked fro life!!!

Some of my friends played in high school so I was aware of it, but I started playing during my freshman year of college. We had a mixed group ranging from years of experience to beginners like me. We had a tremendous DM and I was quickly hooked. Been playing on and off for 25 years now, still AD&D 1st edition. I thought 2nd edition was too much and took out some of the fun. Don't feel like learning 3rd edition, especially since I have everything I need for 1st edition and I don't want to buy all the books again. Now I DM for my kids and their friends :D8

To be honest I think it was a girl when I was like in sixth grade. I was thinking it was MUDD's on telnet but it was first cause of the girl then I liked telnet and then fantasy novels. The girl I got to make out with (she was older by the way hurray me). then after a friend of mine bought hero quest and other games like that. Maybe I can pick up a girl playing who know's I'll keep my fingers crossed lol. Now I would like to play and just use my imagination again.

My brother forced me to play a clerc in a First Eddition game when their normal player stopped playing. I got the party killed when I used the wrong spells, and have been playing these past 20 years when I can find a group. I play 3rd and 3.5, but have played first, and second, as well as advanced; but have no interest in fourth or anything else hasbro decides to come up with.

I started playing D & D basic (the blue, red and Magenta boxees at the age of 15 in 1987 just before starting grade 9 with a bunch of my school chums, and got hooked, From there i moved into 2nd edition. I played about 1 month of 3.0 D & D (did not like it), got a new job with a hectic work schedule and then got married and found myself with no time for the game. My life has settled down now and I have a different job with a schedule that allows for more family time and and time to persue hobbies. I tried 4E and found it was ok, but i still miss the 2nd edition game and would like to find a group playing in my neck of the woods.

I was introduced to the game back in the 80's. One kid in the neighborhood got the box set that came with "The Keep on the Borderland". I was in the right place at the right time cause one of the PC got killed and was quite distraught. I happened to be walking by and they asked me to play. I was young (like 8) and any time the "older" kids wanted to have anything to do with me was cool. They handed me a pre-generated character and told me I was a halfling thief. I was hooked from the first time. That character lasted about 2 days, lol. I liked that it was a game that you could do ANYTHING in. My imagination was the only boundaries. As I got older, all my allowance money went to TSR. I have a lot of stuff now. I am now 38 and teaching my family how to play. I do not care for the 4E rules, but I do like the Live RPG aspect of it. I have DM'd at GenCon at "True Dungeon" and try to play as much as time allows. While deploying to Operation Iraqi Freedom One, I DM'd on the ship and got quite a following. We had to pass the time somehow. :-) I "converted" all my old stuff to 3.5 rules and taught quite a few Marines how to play. Hope some stuck with it. As for me, I still prefer the original AD&D rules 1E all the way, but I could be biased since I am old. :-)

I remember watching my2 Uncles,2Aunts, and Grandmother sit at the kitchen table, playing D&D. It fascinated me, but I was too young at the time to actually understand it. I think I liked the figurines the most, amazing monsters and heroes. My uncle drew awesome detailed colored maps and dungeons. That was my first look at D&D...then as I got older, around 16 years old. Myself and two of my buddies, pitched in $5.00 dollars each and bought the "Red Box" set. We designated my buddy(David) to be DM, unfortunately...he couldnt figure it out. So we shelved it, and it stayed shelved until 1990.. After playing it from 90-91...(Scott) bought the 2nd edition books, and that's what we played til 4e came out(then tried that for a year) and now going back to AD&D.

I started playing D&D with a class mate when I was around 14 or 15. We were talking after phys. ed. and he told me about this new game he had bought. We ended up playing every saturday for at least 3 or 4 years, and even when he moved away to attend colleage we kept the game going without him with the rest og the group. for another 4-5 years. Unfortunately now I no longer play tabletop - all I have left is PBeM - and my wife whom I met in a RPG chatroom

Back in '78 I was in the Navy on board Fleet Frigate forward deployed in Japan. A number of my shipmates who I hung out with kept talking about this game that combined elements of war gaming (which I was heavily into at that time) and elements of fantasy fiction, a la LOTR and Jack Vance, which I was heavily into at that time as well. That game was Dungeons and Dragons, the original edition. One night in port, me and my 'mates went to the enlisted men's club on base for a session. After that session, even though my first PC died, I was hooked and have been playing since when there was time and other players.
